Mission
Nu-Vision ministry is an inter-denominational Christian organization. Our mission is to initiate and direct outreach projects and programs for rehabilitation and development with a specific focus on alleviating poverty, and improving socio-economic standards particularly among the youth.

History
NVM’s co-founders are Martin and Evalyn Rusanga. Friends in Thunder Bay got to know the Rusangas who would later study Sociology, Economics and Business Administration at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. Identifying a need in Rwanda, Martin pursued further studies to become a Canadian accredited optician. Both Martin and Evalyn have dual citizenship in Canada and Rwanda.
The idea for Nu-Vision Ministry germinated during a 1996 trip to Rwanda by the Rusanga family. “We were really interested to go to Rwanda and see whether there were any surviving relatives of ours (after the genocide),” Martin explained. They found that Martin’s grandmother had survived the genocide, albeit with deep emotional scars, but many of their relatives had been murdered. “It was so hard for us just to conceptualize the fact that a group of people that speak the same language, that more or less look alike in terms of physical features, can rise up against others and just wipe them out,” said Martin.
Overwhelmed by the thousands of orphans, a life expectancy of only 39 years for the average male, unemployment rates in excess of 60 percent, and a severe lack of skilled and educated personnel because most had been targeted in the genocide, the Rusangas decided to move back to Rwanda and do whatever they could for the country of their origin.
With dedicated volunteers and help from Knox United Church in Thunder Bay, a charitable not-for-profit, inter-denominational Christian Organization called Nu-Vision Ministry was formed in 1998. The volunteer work expanded to include other groups throughout Ontario working together as Nu-Vision Ministry Canada.
We sincerely thank donors, volunteers and supporters through the years who make this work possible:
- Eye care
- Sponsorship of young people in schools throughout Rwanda and staff of Nu-Vision Ministry in Rwanda.
- Bible Clubs in post secondary schools and colleges
- HIV/Aids Awareness and Prevention education
- Building and running Nu-Vision High School.
